Spare Wheels, 33W480 Fabyan Parkway, Suite 101, was a featured business in the Dec. 24 issue of the “Daily Herald Business Ledger.” The interview was with co-owner Judy DeVoe. The company provides group transportation for children and adults for different types of events, from corporate to personal group outings.
The business opened July1986. At that time the company had one station wagon to transport children and senior citizens in Geneva and St. Charles. DeVoe and her husband purchased the company in September 2001. The fleet consisted of seven vans. Currently the fleet consists of 50 vehicles ranging in various number passenger coach buses; 71 passenger school buses; around 16 passenger school buses, small vans and wheelchair-accessible mini-coaches.

Central DuPage Hospital was among the 92 hospitals nation-wide named 2012 Top Hospitals by the Leapfrog Group. The Leapfrog Group bases its annual survey with the measurement of performance on patient safety and quality of care.  It focuses on three critical areas of hospital care: how patients fare, resource use and management structures in place to prevent errors. CDH is a member of Western DuPage Chamber of Commerce.

Ball Horticultural Company donated poinsettias for the Community Holiday Party, sponsored by American Legion Post 300 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6791.
Jewel Food Stores donated holiday meals to Neighborhood Food Pantries.



Prairie Landing Golf Club hosts its third Annual Bridal Expo Saturday, Jan. 5. Each bride receives a swag bag. Guests are served champagne and treats. Vendors display their products and services. The price is $5 in advance and $8 at the door. St. Andrew Golf & Country Club, 2241 Route 59, holds its annual Eskimo Open from 8 to 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 6. It is either nine or 18 holes. Hawthorne’s Backyard Bar & Grill, 1200 Hawthorne Lane, has several events in January.

  • The College Football Party, Notre Dame vs. Alabama, is at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7.  There is a free Irish half-time buffet, which includes corned beef, cabbage, Irish potatoes and wings. Also there are football jersey giveaways.

  • The Fourth Annual Ovarian Cancer Fundraiser Turkey Bowl is at noon Sunday, Jan. 27. Pre-registration of the four person teams is required There are many prizes, plus give away items.      The annual Cantigny Bridal Show is from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 27 in the Visitors Center, 1S151 Winfield Road. Guests enjoy champagne and wine while sampling foods created by the Cantigny culinary team.  Also highlighted are elegant table and place settings. Cantigny Golf Club, 27W270 Mack Road, hosts two Golf Academy workshops from7 to 8:15 p.m. Tuesdays, Jan. 8, and Jan.22. Each person receives a complimentary copy of Dr. Callaway’s e-book, “The Secret of Achieving Your Ideal Golf Swing.” The charge is $10 for adults and $5 for juniors age 18 and under.      The Junction City—Local World: Musical Artist Invitational meets Wednesdays at Mid City Supper Club, 124 Main Street. This also is the special half price hamburger night. Local artists are invited to perform in a newly formatted evening in preparation of a special music production, “New Jerusalem-A Brave New World.”
Open mic for young musicians under the age of 21 and early risers is from 6 to 8 p.m. Open mic for area musical talent to share music with Jalopyz and other area bands is from 8 to 10 p.m. Jalopyz and other area groups perform from 10 p.m. to midnight.
