Description:
Help the District’s Habitat Improvement Program by lending a hand at the nursery. Weed and water plant beds, or collect and clean seed. 8 – 11 a.m. at the Grounds and Resources Complex at Blackwell Forest Preserve, 29W220 Mack Road in West Chicago. Ages 12 and up; under 16 with an adult. To register, call 630-933-7681 at least five business days in advance; groups of five or more must call 10 business days in advance.

Description:
Chicago folk singer Mark Dvorak will present “Songs from the American Railroad” on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at the CB&Q Depot, 134 Turner Court, West Chicago. There will be three, half-hour performances: 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. This will be an informative and entertaining program with special emphasis on music from America’s railroading tradition. Accompanying himself on guitar and 5-string banjo, Dvorak will share familiar railroad songs from American history. Additional information is available by calling the City Museum at (630) 231-3376 or by emailing museum@westchicago.org.

Description:
Stop by the wagon shed to see the blacksmith repair equipment and demonstrate the tools and techniques of the trade. Demonstrations ongoing. 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. at Kline Creek Farm, 1N600 County Farm Road in West Chicago. All ages. Free. Registration not required. Call 630-876-5900.

[1:30pm] Meet the Beekeepers
Description:
Talk with the farm’s volunteer beekeepers, and learn how they care for the farm’s bees. Visitors will discover how honey is processed from the hive to the jar and learn about other products like beeswax. Registration is not needed to attend these free demonstrations.
